The Cat Who Can Drink From a Straw

My cat Psycho is very intelligent. He can open the fridge for whatever he seems to think he needs - unfortunately he can't remember to close the door though! If I sit down a "to go" cup he knows how to drink out of the straw and even tips the cup to the side for the very last drink.

And when the pizza is delivered he knows to sit on my left and bite the crust as I take my bite!

Cats and garlic
by: Anonymous

In regards to the cat that won't eat garlic hummus... garlic contains disulfides and thiophosphates that can cause various types of anemia in cats.

In other words, it's potentially toxic to your cat, and she knows it. That's why she won't eat it. (It may just be garlic flavored, and not have any real garlic in it, but your cat doesn't know that.)

Cat drinking milk though a straw
by: Anonymous

I have had a few cats that learned to use straws. I at first thought the cat was just chewing on the straw. That may have been how it started. But I tested it. I used a clear straw and milk.

To my surprise I watched the milk go up the straw. Cats can learn to use straws for drinking. But as how they learn or if you can teach it to them I do not have a clue.

Kitty loves corn

My Siamese Nala loves food too. Last night she ate the leftovers off my corn on the cob! Funny kitty she is only 4 months.

Hummus
by: Alana

I recently noticed that fur-face (a nickname) likes all hummus except for garlic. I have no idea why. I can understand a taste for tuna or eggs, but hummus?

Priceless!
by: Alley

I never thought I'd hear of a cat drinking out of a straw! What an amazing/hilarious behavior! I wonder why Siamese cats are so attracted to human food/drinks. I know cats of other breeds who won't go anywhere near human food, and yet my Siamese/Himy mix Bela can't get enough!

When she was a kitten, she used to beg and do tricks in order to persuade me to give her scraps of meat when I was cooking (and boy is she persuasive!) Over the past 4 years, I have caught her in the act of eating all sorts of crazy things. For example, I've seen her sneaking tastes of scrambled eggs, ketchup, any cheeses, any meats, ice cream, and pretty much anything that falls onto the floor or is found on a temporarily unattended kitchen plate. Exactly what you might expect from a dog, rather than a cat!

Needless to say, we have learned our lesson and don't leave any food unattended. But she is a sneaky girl and I still occasionally have to shoo her away when she gets to close to our dinner :o)
